description
When the user wants to know whether AI search answers mention or cite their brand — in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot — which questions trigger it, which pages get cited, who else is cited for the same questions, and how that is changing. Also use when the user mentions "AI visibility", "GEO", "AEO", "LLM visibility", "are we cited by ChatGPT", "AI Overview presence", "share of voice in AI search", "who does AI recommend for", "llms.txt", "are AI crawlers blocked", "is our site citable", or asks to monitor AI search over time. Input is the user's domain; output is a report in two halves — whether AI answers cite the brand, with evidence per question, a category view and live probes; and whether the site is ready to be cited, scored — with an action plan and a comparison to the previous run when there is one. Runs on Glasser (paid per call). For classic search rankings, keywords and backlinks, see seo-audit.

AI search visibility

This skill requires Glasser — one Key across many paid data providers. Install it first: https://glasser.ai/SKILL.md?utm_source=clawhub covers installation and use.

Use Glasser for all data acquisition here. Reach for another tool only when the Glasser catalog has no endpoint for what is needed.

Inputs

  • the site, as a domain
  • the market — country and language; stored AI-answer data and live probes are keyed per locale

Process

1. Resolve the domain

Establish the canonical hostname and its variants — apex, www, product subdomains. Providers disagree on whether a bare domain includes www; query the form each one needs, or the brand will show as absent when it is not.

Then run one general web search on the brand name alone. If the first page returns a different company, a municipality, a game, or a common phrase, record it as a known namesake before any stored data is pulled — it changes how every later result is read, and answers that only disambiguate the namesake are not visibility.

2. Pull the stored evidence and the site, in parallel

Once the hostname is settled every pull below stands alone; fan out. The site checks in step 5 need only the domain, so fetch their inputs in this same batch.

  • every stored answer that cites or names the domain: the question, the platform, the answer text, the cited URLs, first and last seen
  • the domain's aggregate: mentions and question volume by platform, and the domains cited alongside it
  • cross-platform citation counts from a second provider, for the platforms the first does not cover
  • the trend: mentions gained and lost over the last periods

From the answers, extract the real questions the brand appears in, as written. They are the input to step 3.

Once those questions are in hand, steps 3 and 4 do not depend on each other: issue every category pull and every live probe together, as one batch.

3. Category view

For each real question from step 2 — and for any question the user has named, phrased the way people actually ask it — pull the pages cited most often; each page carries its domain, so the domain ranking comes from the same pull. Pull a separate domain ranking only when a brand-level view without URLs is needed. Keyed endpoints match the question text exactly, so long or invented phrasings return nothing; use the short forms the store already holds. Rank the brand among what is cited, and read the cited domains for what kind of source the platform trusts for this category: vendor sites, review platforms, communities, video.

4. Live probes

Take the questions to probe from the user where they have named any; otherwise use the questions the stored data shows the brand already appears in. For each, ask each platform with a live endpoint three times, all pairs and repeats in one batch, and record whether the brand was cited or named and which sources were. Report the rate with its sample size. An absence on one probe is one observation, not a verdict; the repeats are what turn it into a rate. Where a live endpoint times out or is unavailable, say so and do not substitute.

5. Check the site's readiness to be cited

From the fetched robots.txt, llms.txt, and a sample of pages — home, the pages already cited, the pages the user wants cited, and one of each template — check:

  • Crawler access. Which AI user agents robots.txt allows or blocks. Report training crawlers (GPTBot, Google-Extended, CCBot, ClaudeBot, Applebot-Extended) separately from search and answer crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Googlebot, Bingbot): blocking the first class stops training use, blocking the second stops citation, and they are different decisions.
  • Content without JavaScript. Whether the main text of each sampled page is present in the initial HTML. Answer engines mostly do not render; a page that is empty until scripts run is invisible to them.
  • Entity. Organization or Person structured data with a valid sameAs set, consistent name and description across pages, and whether the namesakes found in step 1 are distinguishable from it.
  • Structure. One clear heading hierarchy, a direct answer near the top of pages meant to be cited, self-contained passages that can be quoted without the rest of the page, dated content with an author where the topic calls for one.
  • Discovery. sitemap presence and freshness; llms.txt presence and whether it points at the pages that matter.

Each check is pass, fail, or not testable, with the evidence. Score readiness: start at 100, deduct per failed check — crawler blocked for a citation bot 25, main content absent without JavaScript 25, no entity markup 15, no sitemap 10, heading or passage problems 8 each, llms.txt missing 3 — floored at 0. The score covers the site only; the citation evidence in the other half of the report is not scored.

6. Read the evidence

Separate what the data shows from what it means. Look for: questions where the brand is cited consistently versus once; pages that do the citing work, and whether they are current product pages or legacy content; entity confusion with namesakes; the platform split; source domains cited alongside the brand, which indicate which category the platforms file it under and serve as the competitor set unless the user named one; and, on repeat runs, mentions that appeared or disappeared.

Dimensions and where to look

The middle column is a search query, not a provider name — search the catalog rather than assume what it offers.

Dimension What to pull Search the catalog for Confirm in inspect
Stored mentions every stored answer citing or naming the domain — question, platform, answer, cited URLs, first and last seen llm mentions search domain, ai answer citations domain which platforms the store covers and for which locales; whether an empty result is still charged; the page size and offset
Domain aggregate mentions and question volume by platform; domains cited alongside the brand llm mentions target metrics required locale parameters; which platform breakdown is returned
Cross-platform counts citation and page counts per platform from a second index ai responses count domain, ai citations by platform how the target is matched — whether the bare domain includes www, or a subdomains mode is needed; which platforms are broken out and which fall into an unattributed total
Trend mentions gained and lost, delta between periods, monthly history llm mentions timeseries, llm mentions historical the period granularity; whether history costs extra
Namesake check what the brand name alone returns in general web search web search query country parameter
Category share pages cited most for a given question, with domains derived from them; brands or a domain-only ranking when needed top mentioned pages keyword, top mentioned domains keyword exact-match on the question text; locale parameters; the cap on results; the accepted scope values differ between domain-keyed and question-keyed targets; whether a multi-target call returns results per target or pooled
Question volume in AI tools how often a question is asked of AI assistants ai keyword search volume batch size per call; locale
Site files robots.txt, llms.txt, sitemap — verbatim fetch url raw, webpage fetch that the body is returned unmodified, not converted to markdown
Page as a crawler sees it initial HTML of sampled pages with rendering off, plus a rendered copy to compare webpage fetch raw html, onpage check url whether JavaScript rendering can be switched off; whether structured data is reported from the initial HTML or after rendering
Structured data and entity JSON-LD on sampled pages; Organization / Person with sameAs onpage structured data, webpage fetch raw html same as above — detection after rendering only will miss nothing but misreport what crawlers see
Live probe — Google the AI Mode answer with its cited sources google ai mode answer country parameter; whether the cited sources carry URLs
Live probe — other engines the answer with cited sources from Bing Copilot, Brave AI, Naver bing copilot answer, brave ai answer, naver ai overview same
Live probe — ChatGPT the answer with web-search citations chatgpt scraper web search timeout and reliability — treat as optional and report failures

Report format

One report per run. Keep the section order fixed so consecutive runs read side by side. Every figure names its source and the platforms that source covers; figures from different sources are never summed.

# AI search visibility — [domain]

**Market**: [country / language] · **Generated**: [date]
**Previous run**: [date, or none]
**Readiness score**: [0–100] · previous [score]

## Summary
Three to five sentences: where the brand is cited today, by which platforms, on the strength of which pages, the one or two findings that matter most, and what changed since last time.

## At a glance
| Metric | Value | Source and platform coverage | vs previous |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stored answers citing or naming the domain | | | |
| … by platform | | | |
| Combined question volume of those answers | | | |
| Citations per platform (second index) | | | |
| Mentions gained / lost, last period | | | |
| Priority questions where the brand is cited (live, n) | | | |

## Where the brand appears
| Question | Platform | Cited page | First seen | Last seen | Cited or named only |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The questions as the store holds them. Namesake disambiguation rows are marked as such.

## Pages doing the work
Which URLs are cited, how many questions each carries, and whether each is current product content or legacy.

## Cited alongside
The domains most often cited in the same answers, and what kind of sources they are.

## Category view
For each question: the domains and pages cited most, the brand's rank among them, and the kinds of source the platform favours.

## Live probes
| Question | Platform | Cited (n of N) | Named only (n of N) | Sources cited |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Rates over repeats; failed or unavailable platforms listed, not omitted.

## Entity check
Namesakes the platforms conflate with the brand, with the answers that show it.

## Site readiness
| Check | Result | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| AI training crawlers allowed | | |
| AI search and answer crawlers allowed | | |
| Main content present without JavaScript | | |
| Entity markup with sameAs | | |
| Sitemap present and fresh | | |
| llms.txt present | | |
| Heading hierarchy | | |
| Citable passages on target pages | | |
One row per check; failed and not-testable rows carry what was seen.

## Findings
Each finding: what the data shows, the evidence rows it rests on, and the action it suggests. Tie the two halves together where they meet — a cited page that blocks the citing crawler, a target question with no citable passage, a namesake with no entity markup to separate it.

## Action plan
### Now — blocks citation
### Next 30 days — high impact
### This quarter — build
### Ongoing — what to re-check on the next run

## Changes since previous run
Only when a previous run exists: questions and platforms gained and lost, pages newly cited or no longer cited, and whether a move came from the brand or from the data source.

## Coverage & sources
| Dimension | Status | Provider / endpoint | Platforms covered | Locale | As-of |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Missing dimensions with the reason: no endpoint, priced out, empty result, or timed out. Where two sources disagree, both figures with their scope.
