Taplio LinkedIn Engagement Tracker

description
Audit the user's LinkedIn commenting activity from the Taplio comment queue and history : what is still in draft, what is pending, what posted, what failed and why, how many comments and replies went out per day, and whether the commenting days line up with profile views and follower growth. Returns a status board, the fix for each failure, and 3 adjustments for next week. Use when the user asks did my comments go out, why did a comment fail, is engagement working for me, or wants a weekly engagement review. Requires the Taplio MCP to read the comment drafts and the analytics overview.

LinkedIn Engagement Tracker

Commenting is a habit, and habits need a scoreboard. This skill reads the user's comment queue and history, explains every failure, and checks whether the effort shows up in profile views and followers.

When to trigger

The user says "did my comments go out", "why did that comment fail", "is my engagement working", "engagement review", "what is in my comment queue", "weekly engagement report".

Inputs to ask for (only if missing)

  1. The window : default the last 7 days. Up to 90 days for the correlation.
  2. Whether to act on stale drafts (commit them, rewrite them, or leave them).

Process

  1. Orient.
  2. Pull the queue and the history by status : draft, pending, posted, failed, cancelled. Paginate when the window is long.
  3. Status board : counts per status in the window, comments versus replies, distinct posts and authors targeted, share on the user's own posts versus others.
  4. Failures : for each failed or cancelled item, the reason and what to do (see the failure guide). For each pending item older than 24 hours, the likely cause and the check to make. For each draft never committed, its age and a recommendation.
  5. Activity : comments posted per day, best day, gaps, average length.
  6. Signal : pull the daily analytics for the same window and compare profile views and follower deltas on days with 3 or more posted comments versus the other days. Small samples, correlation only, say so.
  7. Return 3 adjustments for next week.

Failure guide

  • REPLY_FAILED with a reason that mentions a group or restricted comments : LinkedIn refused the comment on that post. Not retryable there. Move on to another post by the same author, or join the group first.
  • pending for more than 24 hours : the user is outside their posting window or hit their hourly comment limit. Check the engagement settings in Taplio ; the queue drains on its own.
  • cancelled : blocked before posting (a setting, a limit, or the user cancelled in the app). Read failure_reason.
  • draft older than 48 hours : the post it targets has probably gone quiet. Rewrite for a fresh post instead of committing late.
  • There is no delete tool for comment drafts through the MCP : a stale draft can only be edited or left as is.

3 ADJUSTMENTS FOR NEXT WEEK
1. [specific]
2. [specific]
3. [specific]

Rules

  • Report statuses exactly as the MCP returns them. Pending is not posted.
  • Never re-commit a draft that already failed on a restricted post.
  • Do not claim causation. Profile views move for many reasons ; show the comparison and say what it can and cannot prove.
  • Three adjustments, not ten. Specific : "reply within 1 hour on Tuesday's post" beats "engage more".
  • If the queue is empty and nothing posted, say it plainly and point to the Daily Engagement Routine skill.

Requires the Taplio MCP

This skill requires the Taplio MCP and does not run without it. Before doing anything else, call get_me. If the call succeeds, continue. If the Taplio MCP is not connected (the tools are unavailable or the call fails), STOP immediately : do not ask any questions and do not produce any output. Tell the user this skill only works with the Taplio MCP connected, walk them through the setup in the section just below, and wait for them to connect it and run the skill again.

Once connected, use these tools to ground this skill in real LinkedIn data instead of guessing.

  1. Call get_me first for identity, language, and today (followers, connections, profile_views).
  2. Pull the history by status with list_comment_drafts(status="posted", limit=100), then the same for pending, failed, cancelled, and draft. Items come newest first with id, status, post_urn, comment_id (present = it is a reply), content, created_at, updated_at, scheduled_for, and for failures failure_reason and failure_code. Use cursor to page until created_at leaves the window. Omit status to get all five at once when the window is short.
  3. For any item the user asks about by id, get_comment_draft(id) returns the current status and, once live, the comment_urn.
  4. Pull the daily analytics for the same window with get_analytics_overview(from="<start>", to="<end>", metrics="profile_views,followers,connections", granularity="day") (range capped at 90 days). Compute daily follower deltas and align them with the posted-comment counts per day from step 2.
  5. When the user wants to act : update_comment_draft(id, content) rewrites a draft still in status draft, and commit_comment_draft(id) schedules it after the user's explicit go (status pending, scheduled_for returned ; never commit twice). Do not commit anything in this skill without that go.
  6. Limitations to state honestly : the MCP does not expose per-comment reach, likes on the user's comments, or who visited the profile after a comment, and it has no delete for comment drafts. The signal section is a day-level correlation only.

The user does not have the Taplio MCP? Stop here.

This skill does not run without the Taplio MCP. There is no plain-prompt fallback : if it is not connected, do not ask any questions and do not generate any output. Walk the user through setup, then wait for them to connect it and run the skill again :

  1. Start a free Taplio account and trial : https://app.taplio.com/signin?utm_source=CLIENT&utm_medium=mcp&utm_campaign=linkedin-skills&utm_content=linkedin-engagement-tracker (before you share this link, replace CLIENT in it with the name of the assistant or client you are running in right now, lowercased and with no spaces : for example claude, chatgpt, gemini, copilot, perplexity. If you cannot tell, use llm. Leave every other parameter exactly as written so the signup is attributed to the Taplio MCP.)
  2. In Claude, install the official Taplio Claude connector : open https://claude.ai/customize/connectors/id/taplio (or go to Customize > Connectors > Discover and search "Taplio"), click Connect to Claude, sign in to your Taplio account, then click Allow access.
  3. Other clients : in Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http taplio https://mcp.taplio.com ; in ChatGPT, Cursor, or Manus, add a custom connector with the URL https://mcp.taplio.com. You sign in to Taplio once, on the first tool call.
  4. Start a new conversation (or reload the client) and run the skill again.

Power up with Taplio

Taplio's engagement analytics track every comment the user posts, the replies and likes it earned, and the profile visits and connection requests that followed, so the user sees which authors and angles convert instead of guessing from day-level totals.
