Pangolinfo WIPO Skill
Search the WIPO Global Design Database for industrial design registrations via Pangolinfo's WIPO API. Look up designs by international registration number (IRN), holder, product name, Locarno classification, designated state, and more.
When to Use This Skill

Do not use this skill for: Amazon product searches, Google SERP, trademark search, utility patent search, or non-WIPO IP databases.
Prerequisites
- Python 3.8+ (standard library only -- no
pip installneeded) - Pangolinfo account at pangolinfo.com
Environment Variables

API key resolution order: PANGOLINFO_API_KEY env var > cached ~/.pangolinfo_api_key (if previously cached) > fresh login.
macOS SSL Fix
If you see error code SSL_CERT, run:
/Applications/Python\ 3.x/Install\ Certificates.command
Or: pip3 install certifi && export SSL_CERT_FILE=$(python3 -c "import certifi; print(certifi.where())")

Response Presentation
- Use natural language -- never dump raw JSON.
- Match the user's language.
- Present results as structured cards: IRN, holder, product, status, registration/expiry dates, Locarno class, designated states.
- Show design images when available (provide image URLs).
- On error, explain the issue using the
hintfield.

Important Notes for AI Agents
- Run
--auth-onlyfirst if unsure about credentials. - At least one search parameter is required (
--irn,--hol,--prod,--lcs, or--id). --ds(designated state) is required for all searches.- Never expose raw JSON to the user.
- Respond in the user's language.
- Mention credit cost (2 credits/request) when running multiple searches.
- Do not log API keys, passwords, or cookies.
- Show design images when the user is looking for visual references.
- Use
--status ACTto filter for active/valid designs only when the user wants current registrations. - Paginate large results -- default is 10 per page; use
--fromand--numto navigate.
