Markdown Table Formatter
This skill helps users reformat messy markdown tables into aligned, readable tables.
Usage
- When the user provides a markdown table, copy it verbatim into your reply inside a fenced code block.
- Normalize each row: split on
|, trim whitespace, drop empty leading/trailing cells. - Compute the max width per column across all rows (including the header separator row).
- Pad every cell to its column width, and re-emit the table with a proper
|---|separator row. - Keep the original order of rows and columns. Do not invent data.
Example
Input:
|a|b|
|-|-|
|1|2|
Output:
| a | b |
|---|--:|
| 1 | 2 |
Notes
- Only handle markdown tables. If the input is not a table, politely decline.
- Preserve numeric alignment using
--:when a column is entirely numeric.
